Of the 84 songs that charted in the Hot 100 Top 10 in 2022, only 22 hung around for 10 weeks or more, and far fewer – just 13 – sat at the top. While there were commonalities between the year’s top performers and the overall Hot 100 Top 10, there were some key differences as well.
Pop as a primary genre was notably more popular among songs with staying power and slightly more popular among #1s, when compared to the overall Top 10. Top performers also made much greater use of electric bass, with some diverse representatives including abcdefu, About Damn Time and Bad Habit.
Lyrically, songs with staying power and #1s featured a much greater degree of introspective lyrics compared to their Top 10 counterparts, present in such hits as As It Was and Easy On Me.
