Hit Songs Deconstructed Music Charts – Week of 4/4/15

This week Flo Rida’s G.D.F.R. joined the Hot 100 top 10 pushing the Hip Hop/Rap primary genre and Trap sub-genre categories to their highest level in 19 weeks and 32 weeks, respectively. Both categories also gained ground during the preceding week thanks to the arrival of Trap Queen.

Other gainers include the partying/living it up lyrical theme category, which reached its highest level in 42 weeks, and the prominent bass and wind instrumentation categories, which currently play a role within 40% and 20% of songs, respectively.

Some of the top characteristics defining this weeks top 10 include:

  • The solo male lead vocal category remains at #1 for the 16th consecutive week, accounting for 50% of songs
  • The late (1:00+) first chorus occurrence category holds onto the top spot for the seventh consecutive week, accounting for 50% of songs
  • The 11 – 15 song title appearance category is now tied at the top with the 1 – 5 appearance category, each accounting for 30% of songs
  • Republic, Interscope, RCA and Atlantic are all tied at #1, each accounting for 20% of songs
  • The 5+ songwriter category is once again the most popular, accounting for 60% of songs
