David Penn is the founder of Hit Songs Deconstructed and the creator of the HSD methodology, which he developed in 2010 to analyze the songwriting and production techniques behind successful contemporary songs.

His work has been adopted by leading music programs including Berklee College of Music, Frost School of Music, and USC Thornton, and he has delivered guest lectures at universities and industry events across the music business.

David has also developed custom workshops for companies including Atlantic Records and BMG, and his work has been featured by Billboard, Variety, Music Week, BMI, Financial Times, and The Economist.

He also works directly with songwriters and producers, helping them better understand the craft behind successful songs and apply those insights to their own work.
